Hello, my name is Amanda Kielty and I live in beautiful Yungaburra, in the Atherton Tablelands. I have travelled most of my adult life before putting down roots here eight years ago. I fell in love with the amazing landscapes and the great outdoors here, as well as the incredible diversity of nature and the fantastic climate.
Nature is one of my great passions in life and I spend as much time as possible outdoors amongst it, appreciating its many gifts and lessons. I really enjoy camping, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, swimming, hiking and mountain biking, just to name a few!
Another great passion of mine is travel, even though I travel less since immigrating to Australia. I am very happy and grateful for my lifestyle here and feel less inclined to travel with so much beauty and diversity on my own doorstep. Having said that, I am originally Irish and travel back to Ireland and Europe each year to see my family and friends. I have travelled extensively over the years, to over sixty or seventy countries, including Japan, where I had a wonderful experience. I loved the beautiful polite people, the delicious food and the amazing landscape and culture.
I work as a primary school teacher here in Australia and I have taught in many countries including Ireland, England, Spain, the U.A.E, and New Zealand. I volunteered teaching English in Peru and Guatemala and worked with UNICEF in Peru following a devasting earthquake there in 2007. I also volunteered in an orphanage in Bolivia for two months, taking care of babies and young children. I have always been passionate about working with and empowering children through education.
I have been teaching for fifteen years now, mostly in primary schools but also in high schools and I have planned and taught adult TEFL classes in Ireland. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, Sociology and Anthropology and a Postgraduate Certificate in primary education with Languages. I also have a diploma in Spanish, and I am a qualified TEFL teacher, having received my TEFL Certificate from the Centre of English Studies, Dublin, Ireland.
I am very excited to combine my love and passion for travel, nature and teaching in my role as your English teacher and I look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful region and many wonderful adventures together!
